The Romantic Old Town of Chania in Crete

The second largest city on the island is known for its beautiful narrow alleys and very well preserved old town. Crete is a cradle of Western civilization and its history dates back to 2700 BC. Later it was a witness of Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman eras, influencing Crete’s culture.

Although heavily bombed during World War II, Chania had regained its face fairly quickly. Today it is one of the most beautiful urban parts on the island. Many historic buildings have been restored and now houses hotels, shops, restaurants and bars. The town is a magnet of attraction even in winter – its picturesque web of narrow streets and authentic architecture make it a popular attraction.

Why to go there?: Once in Crete Chania is a must see location. Not only due to its rich cultural heritage, but also for a vibrant nightlife and hospitable atmosphere.
When to go there?: All year round – even in winter the town remains busy and lively.
How to get there?: By plane to Chania International Airport from Greece. From April to November there are direct flights from the UK, Germany, Scandinavia and other European countries. Also you can get there by ferry from Athens. Get around Crete by bus or car.
